Celebrating Senior Appreciation Day

Today, on the occasion of Senior Appreciation Day, we took a moment to appreciate the wisdom, experience, and contributions of our older adults. We met with local seniors over breakfast to reflect on the journey of aging. A big thank you to Lexington Human Services & Lexington Community Center for hosting such a wonderful celebration.

When we take the time to connect with our older adults, there's so much we can learn from them. For instance, I learned about ancient breakfast choices from around the world, like in Taiwan, where it's customary to have steamed rice cakes dressed with salty or sweet options. In China, rice or wheat buns made with fresh soy milk and stuffed with pork and other meats are the go-to breakfast.

Often, the children of seniors get busy with their own families, careers, and life commitments. It's important to take a few minutes out of our schedules to appreciate our parents and grandparents—not just today, but all year round. This could be a quick call or message to say good morning or good night, or simply acknowledging that you have a busy day but are thinking of your senior loved one. These small gestures can go a long way in making them feel connected and cared for.

We encourage all seniors to stay involved in their local community for as long as possible. Engaging in social activities like going for a walk, joining a knitting club, or playing pickleball can be a healthy way to connect with like-aged and like-minded people. Many senior living communities offer the social connection and senior-first lifestyle that can significantly enhance the mental and emotional well-being of our older adults. Most residents living in a senior community report an enhanced sense of belonging and value within the first year of moving in.

Senior placement services like Provital play a crucial role in matching your loved one with the most appropriate community that fits their lifestyle today and for years to come. We take the time to learn about your loved one’s preferences, financial situation, health, and their vision for aging with dignity. We then work with local communities to propose the most suitable choices. And not to worry—we will hold your hand throughout the process, guiding you every step of the way to ensure a comfortable transition, both physically and emotionally.

At Provital, Senior Appreciation Day is more than a date on the calendar. It serves as a reminder to continually strive for a society where aging is respected and cherished, whether that means living at home with care services or in a senior living community.
